How To Make Marinara Sauce?

What you want to use is a high-quality crushed tomato can because it’s great, it has puree and pulp and it’s totally crushed

It makes it very easy to make marinara sauce.

I don’t buy whole tomatoes and spend time mashing them in my pot, it takes a lot of work.

Why go through all that work to make your own crushed Tomatoes if you can buy it in the can from the store.

So for this marinara sauce recipe, you want to have a saucepan sufficiently high enough so that all the ingredients can simmer in it.

Put the saucepan on a medium heat.

Add 2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil in the pan and give it a little swirl.

And after heating the olive oil, add in the garlic.

Now, cook the garlic till it gives out a little brownish color.

Just a little, you don’t want it to go over golden brown because if the garlic gets burnt you have to throw it out, so be very careful.

Then, add nice diced onions.

And lower the heat a little bit.

So when they cook for a few moments and you start to see the onions becoming a little softer and the garlic is doing fine.

Add the nice crushed tomatoes to that.

Take a little water to wash out the can to get the last drop of the crushed tomatoes and add that to the sauce.

Then give it a sort of swirl in there a little bit.

And at this point, add 2-3 tbsp dried basil.

Always add your dried spices in the beginning of the cooking process, so that the volatile oils come out through heat.

And we’ll add the fresh basil at the end.

Now let it cook on simmer for about 15 minutes.

No need to over reduce or extract the sauce, there aren’t any raw ingredients as we’ve already cooked the garlic and the onions in the olive oil.

And the tomatoes cook very quickly since they’re a vegetable fruit.

Now we’re going to add the fresh basil.

Fresh basil will give this sauce a whole new dimension that any marinara sauce should have.

Now add some crushed black pepper and some sea salt.

Some people like to add sugar to the marinara sauce.

But it really depends on the sweetness of the tomatoes, so that would probably be used when you have backyard or vine ripened tomatoes that may not be as sweet.
